The Indigistream story so far…
I am an Aboriginal (Gooreng Gooreng and Kabi Kabi) man who has worked for over 28 years as a journalist and producer. I understand both journalistic procedures and pressures and the cultural contexts in which these pressures may negatively impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. I have extensive experience with interviewing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants in a studio format and on Country and use cultural sensitivity and respect which has always been at the forefront when I deliver my work.
A major part of this included working for Indigenous programmes and production companies such as National Indigenous Radio Service, National Indigenous Television, TNT Sports Network (Goodwill Games) the ABC, Seven Network, SBS and the Nine Network.
A major production highlight was co-producing a 3-part series on the 2012 Indigenous Cricket Tour to India. This was screened on National Indigenous Television (NITV) and the ABC’s Australia Network in 40 countries in 6 languages. I have completed my Bachelor of Communications with majors in Screen Production, Journalism, and a Graduate Certificate in Writing, Editing and Publishing. For nearly a decade I have been involved in the Queensland Murri Rugby League Carnival as the chief commentator for National Indigenous Television.
My other roles include, tutoring at Queensland University of Technology - Walking on Country (QUT002) and The University of Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health subject (INDH1005). I advise the Australian Creative Histories and Futures Project Research Advisory Group and the Australian Creative Histories and Futures Project Indigenous Advisory Group.
I am currently the Co-chair for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Round Table for the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
I have a trusted Indigenous team I call on for major projects. And meet deadlines within budget.
In 2019 I graduated with a Graduate Certificate in Writing, Editing, Publishing at The University of Queensland and am currently finishing my PhD (by Creative Practice) at Queensland University of Technology producing a documentary titled: Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP): Improving the legal management of media content about/with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the School of Law, Faculty of Business and Law.
